In the run up to the Scottish Open – the annual badminton competition held by Badminton Scotland – we take a look at one of the exciting local prospects at this year’s event. Adam Hall will be entering both the Men’s and Mixed Doubles events. The right handed 23 year old is definitely one to look out for in Glasgow this year.
Born in the ancient and royal burgh of Irvine, Scotland in February of 1996, he evidently showed potential for Badminton from a young age. Adam has been a part of the Scottish National Team since 2012 and by the age of 18, he was winning medals. Partnered by his compatriot Gordon Thomson, together they got to the final of the Welsh International. Unfortunately, for these two they were unable to get their hands on the desired gold, losing to Matthew Nottingham and Harley Towler 15-21 and 13-21 for the boys to come away with the silver. A year later he was at it again. This time at the European Junior Championships, with Alexander Dunn, in the Polish town of Lubin, where they took home the bronze medal.
Over the years, Adam Hall has proceeded to not only be consistent in his success, but show signs of improvement. In 2016, he and English partner Christopher Coles, got over the top of Ben Lane and Sean Vendy, 21-19 and again 21-19 to win the Iceland open, before renewing his partnership with Alexander Dunn in 2017. Here the Scottish duo came second to the home pairing of Lukasz More and Wojciech Szkudiarczyk 11-21, 18, 21, before wining the Irish Open and Turkey International in the same year, before returning to Iceland in 2018. Here the boys got over the top of Danish pairing 21-16 and 21-18 to take home their third gold medal in a row together.
Alexander Dunn and Adam Hall currently have a Men’s Doubles BWF World Ranking of 52, although they had previously placed at 45 in March 2018. Hall’s Mixed Doubles partner is Julie MacPherson and they are ranked 64th in the world. Both duo’s are seeded for the Scottish Open, so will be amongst Badminton Scotland’s biggest hopes for success.
The Scottish Open will be hosted by Badminton Scotland. It will run between Thursday the 21st and Sunday 24th of November and will be held at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
